Welcome to Herts TRF

We ride legal green roads (byways open to all traffic and UCR’s) all over England and Wales. This allows us to see and explore some of the lesser known areas of our beautiful country.

We ride an eclectic mix of bikes from gentle trail bikes to full on enduro bikes, quads to big off roaders. We ride throughout the year and abide to a strict code of conduct that ensures we respect all users of the roads we travel from pedestrian to equine to cyclist to farmer or 4×4 driver.

Whatever type of green road riding you want to do we can help to ensure you do safely and legally.

There are usually rides every week and at least one beginners ride every month, starting from different points around the county. We have members of all ages and ability, both male and female.

About Us

The Herts TRF group is a local group of TRF members working together to help maintain and preserve access to the local green roads throughout the counties of Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire. We are setup as a not of profit organisation with an affiliation to the national Trail Riders Fellowship (http://trf.org.uk).

We are totally committed to trail and adventure riding. The Herts group is one of the largest TRF group in England and Wales with over 500 active members. Getting advice from other members is one of the great benefits of being in the TRF helping you to choose anything from a new bike, accessories, riding kit or what you should take with you when you ride.

You will also find members are happy to pass-on the benefit of their experience to help you improve your riding and navigation skills. Have a chat with a few members, or via our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/groups/HertsTRF) before major purchases such as a bike and tyres. We ride all of Hertfordshire and the surrounding counties as well other areas further afield such as Devon, The Peak District, Isle of Man and Wales. As well as riding in the UK we also organise trips abroad (France, Spain, Portugal etc) to ride.

Road Conservation is the foremost concern of the TRF and we usually have 2 to 3 ongoing cases at anyone time with the TRF defending our members access rights. Herts TRF are particularly strong on road conservation with a team of officers leading the way and pride ourselves on excellent relationships with the local councils and other ROW (Rights of Way) groups whom we hold in high regard.

The Trail Riders Fellowship is a national organisation that was founded in Hertfordshire with the inaugural meeting being held at the Valiant Trooper pub in Tring back in 1970. Nationally in the UK the TRF use around 3000 miles of byways and green lanes of which 125 miles are right here in Hertfordshire and more across the wider North London area.

Our ride leaders and sweepers are very experienced and include ex police motorcyclists and enduro competition riders, which helps to keep our rides well managed and professional. No one gets left behind on a TRF ride… ever.

We look forward to seeing you on one of our rides soon.
